Free insulation grants are provided by UK energy companies who are obliged by the Government to improve the efficiency of UK homes. Funding is distributed to various schemes across the country and whilst not every scheme offers free insulation, our network of installers all have access to schemes that do. This means you can now have both cavity wall and loft insulation installed absolutely free, regardless of age, income or circumstances.
You can apply for your free insulation here. We’ll pass your enquiry to an appointed insulation contractor who will contact you to arrange a free survey. If your home is suitable, a date will be arranged for them to install the insulation in your property. There is nothing to pay.
On 1st October 2012 the Government, DECC and Energy Suppliers began their ECO [ENERGY COMPANY OBLIGATION] funding obligation. ECO funding is estimated to provide £1.3 billion for housing upgrades in England, Scotland and Wales. It is split into three sections with 60% going into Carbon Savings to aid solid wall and cavity wall insulation, 15% going into Carbon Saving Communities (CSCo) for solid wall and cavity wall insulation, loft insulation, district heating and glazing, and 25% going into Affordable Warmth, which can be applied to any measure.
Much in the same way as CERT, the funding is provided by the ‘big six’ – British Gas, EDF, E.ON, Npower, Scottish Power and SSE. As before, these companies have an obligation to help people like you and I reduce our carbon footprints and cut our energy bills. And as before, if they don’t reach their targets, they will be heavily fined.
ECO does work a little differently in that it’s split into two parts; Carbon Saving ECO and Affordable Warmth ECO.
Carbon Saving Eco is aimed primarily at ‘hard to treat’ properties where significant carbon savings can be made, such as houses with solid walls. It wouldn’t be possible to fund these types of project with Green Deal funding alone, so they will be funded by a mixture of ECO and Green Deal.
Affordable Warmth ECO is aimed at low-income or vulnerable households – so called ‘priority customers’. It will pay for simple insulation measures (cavity & loft) and in some cases it will pay for a shiny new boiler!
The insulation grants will not last forever. Once the funding runs out, the scheme will end. Demand is increasing so don’t leave it too late.
Cavity wall insulation is a cost-effective way of reducing the amount of heat lost through the walls of your home and reducing your Carbon Footprint By Installing Cavity Wall Insulation you can reduce up to 35% heat loss from your home, which can dramatically reduce heating costs; you can save up to £115 per year (Figures provided by The Energy Saving Trust) and also reduce your CO2 by 610kg!Find out more »
